Unearthed Errata: Arcana Evolved-Themed Witch Archetypes

by Tim Wallace

When I started to look at creating a Pathfinder witch archetype to capture the feel of the feel of the Arcana Evolved witch class, I realized that the witcheries of the Arcana Evolved witch were very much like the mysteries of the Pathfinder oracle. I know that the shaman class from the Advanced Class Guide also combines the oracle and witch classes, but I wanted to maintain the arcane nature of the witch, so I created the augurer archetype below. I also flirted with the idea of giving the augurer archetype the oracle’s curse class ability, but decided against it. Instead I created a separate archetype for that (see the cursed witch archetype).

Augurer (Archetype)
Unlike other witches, augurers tap their very soul find their power, rather than look to a mysterious outside force.

Witchery: Rather than look to an external power, or patron, for her abilities, an augurer delves into herself to unlock her true potential. The augurer selects an oracle mystery. She gains the class skills and bonus spells associated with that mystery at their designated levels. Bonus spells gained in this manner are automatically added to the list of spells stored by her familiar. This replaces the witch’s patron.

Witchery Manifestation: At 2nd level and every four levels thereafter (6th, 10th, and so on), an augurer uncovers a new secret about her witchery that grants her powers and abilities. The augurer must select a revelation from the list of revelations available to her witchery. This replaces the witch’s hexes gained at 2nd level and every four levels thereafter (6th, 10th, and so on).

Witchery Mastery: At 20th level, an augurer learns the final revelation about her witchery, granting her amazing powers and abilities. The nature of these bonuses depends upon the augurer’s witchery. This replaces the witch’s hex gained at 20th level.

Recommended Witcheries (Mysteries): ancestor, metal, time, waves, wind, wood

Hexes: The following witch hexes complement the augurer archetype: prehensile hair, slumber, ward.

Major Hexes: The following major hex complements the augurer archetype: vision.

Cursed Witch (Archetype)
Some witches' power comes with the affliction of a curse, and some witches afflict themselves with a curse to gain power.

Witch’s Curse (Ex): A cursed witch must choose an oracle’s curse at 1st level. This ability replaces the witch’s hexes gained at 1st and 3rd level.

Hexes: The following witch hexes complement the cursed witch archetype: disguise, misfortune, scar.

Major Hexes: The following major hex complements the cursed witch archetype: agony, infected wounds, retribution.

Grand Hexes: The following grand hex complements the cursed witch archetype: forced reincarnation.
